Scholarship programs are a golden opportunity for many bright students to pursue their education in reputed world institutions. The cost of education is skyrocketing however with scholarships education becomes highly subsidized and affordable for them. Let’s find out about some of the scholarship programs including the Graduate Degree Fellowship offered by East West Centre.
The Graduate Degree Fellowship is a financial help program for 24 months for students seeking Master or Doctoral degrees. Scholarships are given to students to study at the University of Hawaii, Manao. The students will be trained in a residential leadership program at the East-West Center apart from their degrees at the University of Hawaii.
To be eligible for this scholarship, one must be a resident of either the US or countries In the Asia and Pacific (Pacific Islands, Southeast Asia, South Asia, and East Asia, including Russia). The center organizes intercultural programs for the students to participate and interact with each other, making a lifetime bond. East West center is trying to create a community ready for future leadership roles in Asia-Pacific. The students accommodate together learning about each other cultures while discussing not only intellectual topics but social issues endemic to their respective countries.
The scholarship covers the tuition fees of the UHM (University of Hawaii, Manao), accommodation at a dormitory of the East-West Center, and books; other partially covered items comprise health insurance, meals, and incidental expenses. There is also a provision of competitive funding where funding for conference presentations and field studies is given.
East West Centre, based in Hawaii, has vowed to create a multicultural community by providing scholarships to Asia-Pacific students. Their vision is to form a group that identifies as an Asia Pacific community and works to uplift the region.

Other popular lucrative schemes
Several other scholarships for students from the Asia Pacific region, such as the Asian Development Bank- Japan Scholarship Program (ADB-JSP) established in 1988. This is a similar scholarship to the one given by East-West Center providing. This scholarship primarily focuses on the students belonging to underdeveloped members of the Asian Development Bank. The fields of study marked for the scholarship are economics, Science, management, and other developmental areas. The students of this scholarship are expected to render their services in their respective countries.

Another such scholarship worth mentioning is the UK Commonwealth Scholarship. It helps the financially weak candidates belonging to the commonwealth nations. It provides scholarships for Masters’s and Ph.D. programs in Universities around the UK. The choice of degrees is not restricted under this program. To apply to this program, one must go through a National Nominating Agency, An NGO, or a university.
