PM Narendra Modi declares 36th National Games open; takes jibe at corruption and nepotism in earlier times

Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared 36th National Games open in Ahmedabad during which he highlighted the various efforts taken to promote sports in the country which was earlier marred by corruption and nepotism, instead of the required professionalism.

“We cleaned that and raised confidence in the youth for their dreams”, he said.

The sports budget of the country has been hiked by almost 70 percent in the last 8 years.

“This has led to more and more resources being made available to the players which help in creating more and more opportunities for the players,” added PM Modi.

The efforts like Fit India and Khelo India have become a mass movement that has played a key role in promoting sports in the country.

The Prime Minister remarked that sports universities are being set up in the nation, and advanced sports infrastructures are being erected in every nook and corner of the country.

Also, the lives of retired players became easier due to the efforts of the government. Also, an arrangement is being developed where new generation can benefit from the experiences of the retiring players.

Sports have been a part of India’s legacy and growth journey for thousands of years the said Prime Minister while throwing light on the history of India’s civilization and culture

“In the Azadi Ka Amrit Kaal, the country is reviving this tradition with pride in its heritage,” further said Prime Minister.

According to Prime Minister, Indian sports like ‘Kalaripayattu’ and Yogasan are also gaining importance.

“I am glad that these games have been included in big events like National Games”, he continued.

The state of Gujarat is hosting National Games for the first time which will be organized from 29th September to 12th October 2022. It will be the biggest National Games ever in which 15,000 sportspersons, coaches, and officials from across the country will be participating in 36 sports disciplines. The sporting events will be organized in six cities of Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, and Bhavnagar.
