Seasoned diplomat Dr. Eliska Zigova took over as the Czech ambassador to India which will give a further boost to the relations between the Czech Republic and India given her long illustrious career in foreign affairs and diplomacy.
She presented her credential to the President of India, Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan on September 14, 2022. H.E. Dr. Eliska Zigova assured the President of India about her commitment to further strengthen the ties between the Czech Republic and India.
Born on August 4, 1960, in Gdansk, Poland she is a polyglot who can speak English, Polish, Russian, and Czech.
For the first time, the Czech Ambassador to India will be a woman.
She started her illustrious career with Central Europe Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Prague, Czech Republic. She has served in many countries including Egypt and USA. From 2014 to 2018, she served as Ambassador of the Czech Republic in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. Before assuming the charge of ambassadorship in India she was serving as Director, Asia, and Pacific Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Prague, Czech from 2019 -2022 covering 48 Asian countries and 15 independent Pacific Island nations.
The President of the Czech Republic Milos Zeman appointed Dr. Eliska Zigova as the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Czech Republic to the Republic of India in April.
She will be succeeding H.E. Mr. Milan Hovorka who served as Czech ambassador to India from September 2021 to November 2021. She is the seventh Czech ambassador to be appointed to India.
Since the establishment of the Czech Republic on January 1, 1993, India and the Czech Republic have enjoyed a very cordial relationship.
